Surgery for Fissure, Fistula and Piles

Surgery for Fissure

The goal of surgery is to help the anal sphincter muscles relax which reduces pain and spasms, allowing the fissure to heal. For fissure surgery, doctors typically perform a procedure called lateral internal sphincterotomy (LIS). During LIS, a small portion of the anal sphincter muscle is cut. This technique can promote healing and relieve spasms and pain. surgery is much more effective than any medical treatment for chronic fissures.

Surgery for Fistula

During the fistula surgery, the surgeon opens the fistula passage and removes the diseased tissue or allows the pus to drain. This transforms the fistula from a tunnel into an open groove and allows the fistula tract to heal from the inside out. The goal of surgery is to heal the fistula and prevent damage to the sphincters (the ring of muscles that opens and closes the anus). Damage to the sphincters can lead to loss of bowel control (bowel incontinence).

Surgery for Piles

Hemorrhoid surgery involves removing swollen blood vessels in or around the anus and rectum. Doctors call these inflamed vessels hemorrhoids. There are various surgical options to treat hemorrhoids that cause discomfort to the patient. Surgical procedures are aimed at restricting the blood supply or removing the hemorrhoid. Rubber band ligation is a common example of hemorrhoid surgery. This procedure uses a band to restrict the blood supply to a hemorrhoid, eventually causing it to fall out.
