A laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy is a minimally invasive surgical operation used to remove tumors from the body or tail of the pancreas that are benign or malignant (cancerous). Due to its proximity to the pancreas and the fact that it shares certain blood arteries with it, the surgeon will frequently need to remove the spleen. You undergo general anesthetic, so the operation will keep you unconscious. Gas is injected into your belly to widen the space and improve the surgeon's view of the abdominal cavity. To stop you from feeling queasy or throwing up, your surgeon places a tube through your nose and into your stomach. Additionally, your surgeon inserts drainage tubes to help with fluid drainage during surgery and recuperation. Three minor incisions are made by your surgeon. The first one is for a tiny camera that lets your surgeon see the pancreas and the region around it. The second one is for surgical tools, and the third one is for your surgeon's hand. Your surgeon must first confirm that the tumor is still operable and that the malignancy has not spread before moving further. The malignant portion of your pancreas is removed, along with the spleen if necessary, by your surgeon.
